Romulus-attitude

'Romulus, my father reveals the importance of one's attitude to life.' Discuss.

Trials, afflictions and misery can alter and distort the path of an individuals life. If these burdens are dwelled upon, no satisfactory outcome can become of it. 'Romulus, my Father' expresses the seriousness in maintaining a positive outlook on life. The text shows both the consequential state of characters whos lives were destroyed due to their negative approach and also the content state of those who remained steadfast.

Individuals who sustain a positive outlook on life ultimately benifit. Though pain and long suffering may be thrust upon an individual, if they coninue to look for the good in all things, their lives will be worthwhile. Romulus Gaita suffered much torment in his life. Mirtu betrayed him, Christine had an affair, Lydia coloured her letters with deceit, and Romulus(himself) fell into insanity. He did not, however, let this reshape the path of his life. He paid off the debts that he had previously promised and he did not have a bitter heart towards any of the other characters despite any disagreements. "Despite their quarrels, Hora and my father reamined friends.." Romulus maintained a good heart reguardless of these hardships. Due to this he devloped morality, lasting friendships, a loving nature and sucess. His life was aquainted with happiness and fufillment as a result. People who dilligently try to seek a positive perspective will gain much happiness.

Similarly, those who persevere and endure trials, non discouragingly, will be profited. If they do not succumb to the hardships that could weaken them, they will prosper triumphantly. Raimond gaita suffered many difficulties at a young age. He was neglected and abandoned as a baby and later in his life his mother and Mitru both comited suicide. This could have had a drastic impact on his life. Due to Raimond's steadfast approach he did not become evanescent. He held true to his goals and dreams and fulfilled a complacent life. Raimond attended University and became a pilosopher. He also married and had children. Individuals can succeed if they are in the right frame of mind and sustain a wider perspective.

Conversely, individuals who dwell on their sorrow and grief can lead unhappy lives. Those who are pain striken can yeild and not prosper. Other peoples burdens can also contribute to a long suffering life. Mitru experienced a stressful stage in his life, in which he had the entire responsiblity in his home. He had to care for Christine as she was ill, work in order to pay the bills and nurture two babies all at the same time. This meant coming home during his lunch breaks at work in order to change Susan and Barbaras' nappies. This overwhelming responsibility became too much and Mitru could not bear it any more. He committed suiced as a result and destroyed his existance. People who linger on the negative aspects in life will ultimately be swallowed by it.

The text demonstrates the significance in keeping a positive outlook on life and shows through example, the ramifications of those characters who attained a negative approach. 'Romulus, my Father' shows how essential it is to always be optimistic even through the monst treachorous and long suffering hardships.
